Old Folks

Here's a ballad interpretation of "Old Folks," the 1938 song by Willard Robison (music) and Dedette Lee Hill (lyrics). There is something very American in this melody's down-home lyrics about an aging Civil War veteran. This tune resonates for me in this agonizing time of polarized American politics.
Lush Life

Composed by Billy Strayhorn Lush Life is a prodigious composition. It's musically through-composed and it's a long tune with many sections that flow without much repetition. It also has deep and poetic lyrics. A tune like this is difficult to perform. Inner hearing the lyrics as I played kept me musically on track.

Hi John, such a beautiful song! I'm making my way through your solo jazz guitar book. It's brought me hours and hours of enjoyment, thank you so much for your wonderful contribution to music.
Great. Mike Connors on drums always very tasteful.
Very nice, gentlemen. Thank you. Will share.

Great show in Osasco-Brasil.

Hey John, you sound great. Great Brazilian tone poppin outta that Gibson. Ignore comment below. I was searching for info on the late great Harry the hipster Gibson and put info in the wrong box. "Vousette Swing" as Ron Jefferson was fond of saying
Harry the hipster blue

I love the flute solo!
Very nice John. Sounds very intimate and heartfelt. keep up the the great work.
@e51warner hell yeah!
Now what's the name of that kind of organ, or the kind of organ that produces this sound? The baseball park/soap opera organ, I mean. It has the oscillating, fluid kind of sound. As opposed to the pipe organ, whose sound texture is a stiff, solid, still, metal bar-like, pipe-y sound. I used to think it was called the Hammond organ but eventually I learned that Hammond is just the name of a brand of this kind of organ.
This is cool stuff.
cool
nice conversation amongst the instruments : )
